Diego is a marine engineer with experience.

He likes good restaurants and to travel to marvelous places.

During university I loved it when some professors told us anecdotes about their topics.

It was a smart way of relating the concept with the practical aspect of the profession.
I was amazed, imagining me living those experiences.

So now, I write about real experiences to solve problems and motivate people.

I also write to earn money.

Some anecdotes

  • GEARBOX NIGHTMARE
One of my friends, who works as a chief engineer apprentice, told me the other day about a crap situation related to his job:

So, imagine this: we are in the middle of the ocean, I’m laying on my bed with my ipad, everything’s running smooth, when suddenly the alarms start ringing in the engine room. At first, nobody pays attention. Then I get called, and man, the place was a total oil slick! Oil everywhere!

Apparently the gearbox was leaking oil, and it was dripping right onto the hot engine parts. I swear, we were this close to turning the engine room into a barbecue. We had to stop everything, reroute to the nearest port, and fix the broken seal. It took hours, and we were delayed a whole day.

If the preventive maintenance had been done accordingly, I would had stopped in that harbour for partying! And not for overtime -and stressed- work.

NO, I DON’T KNOW THE MEANING OF CPP – Peter said

“Don’t you know what a CPP is, Peter? It’s a Controllable Pitch Propeller! Unlike a fixed pitch propeller, you can adjust the blade angles while the ship is moving. That means that you get better efficiency at different speeds and loads. You want more thrust for maneuvering or need to reverse in an emergency? Just change the blade angle!

With a fixed pitch propeller, you’re stuck with one angle, and it’s way less flexible. CPP gives you full control. Why are we even having this conversation?!”
